Pregnancy can cause numerous changes to the body, some of which resolve on their own, while others stick around and can negatively affect your self-confidence and body image. If you want to regain your pre-baby figure or contour and sculpt a new body shape, a mommy makeover could be the perfect solution. But before you undergo surgery, there are a few things you’ll want to do to prepare.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of surgeries used to give you back your pre-pregnancy body. It can include any number of procedures, including liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, and more.

Two Weeks Before the Surgery

Quit Nicotine

If you use nicotine products, such as cigarettes, you’ll need to quit at least six weeks before your surgery. Nicotine can cause various issues before and after your procedure, including an increased risk of hemorrhaging and infection. It can also slow down the healing process.

Limit Alcohol Use

While it is fine to consume alcohol in moderation for several weeks leading up to your surgery, you’ll want to quit entirely at least two weeks beforehand. Alcohol is considered a blood thinner and can increase the risk of excessive bleeding during and after your mommy makeover.

Clear Your Schedule

Expect several weeks of downtime following your mommy makeover procedure. Because a mommy makeover consists of multiple surgeries done at one time, your body will need plenty of rest and relaxation in order to heal properly. You’ll want to give yourself time to recover, and that means staying at home and away from work and strenuous activities for at least a few weeks. Make sure to plan time off work ahead of your surgery so you can devote all of your attention and energy to yourself and your recovery.

Five Days Before the Surgery

Set Up Childcare

Setting up childcare beforehand is essential for your peace of mind. You won’t be able to lift your child or take care of them in the way you normally would. Ask your spouse, a friend, or a family member to step in to ensure they can get to school and get the things they need. It’s only for a few weeks, and then you’ll be back to being the mom they know and love.

Make Sure You Have a Ride

You won’t be able to drive right after your treatment because general anesthesia is used to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. You may be groggy when you wake up and not ready to drive yourself home. Having a friend or family member drive you to and from surgery ensures you can get home safely and start the recovery process.

Two Days Before Surgery

Make Food in Advance

Being a mom undoubtedly already gives you a good idea of how much time and effort meal prepping can save you. The same goes for after surgery. Prepare healthful, ready-made meals before your mommy makeover to reduce stress and unnecessary physical activity in the days following your procedure.

Stock Up

Stock up on extra pillows, gauze, ice packs, blankets, and anything else that will help aid your recovery. Make sure to fill any prescriptions you’ll need as well. After surgery, all you’ll feel like doing is resting. Get what you need beforehand, and you’ll thank yourself later.

Day of Before Surgery

On the day before surgery, you’ll want to stop eating or drinking anything after midnight. Because you’ll be under general anesthesia, having an empty stomach ensures that if you become sick during surgery, there is nothing that could end up in your lungs and affect your breathing.
