Why Emsella?

Emsella is an effective urinary incontinence treatment that is completely non-invasive, non-surgical, and requires no downtime. The treatment can be completed quickly and comfortably in our Hanover, MD EM Suite Center.

How Does Emsella Work?

The Emsella urinary retention treatment works by using electromagnetic energy, which stimulates thousands of pelvic floor muscle contractions during a single treatment session. This strengthens and trains the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic muscle strengthening treatment helps individuals increase control of their muscles and bladder, helping urinary incontinence. This electromagnetic energy is emitted through the Emsella Kegel chair, which patients simply sit on—fully clothed—for the duration of their pelvic toning treatment. This Kegel throne uses noninvasive energy to produce contractions of the pelvic floor muscles. In less than half an hour this urinary incontinence treatment produces the equivalent of 11,000 Kegels.

Am I A Good Candidate For Emsella?

Urinary incontinence is a very common problem for women, especially if they have reached menopause or have had children. Most women struggling with urinary incontinence, including small leaks when you sneeze or laugh or frequent urges to urinate, are good candidates for the stress incontinence treatment of Emsella. However, certain health conditions may be contraindications for the treatment. During a thorough consultation in our Hanover, MD office, Dr. Ashruf will review your health history and symptoms and recommend whether or not you are a good candidate for the procedure.

The Emsella Procedure

During Emsella treatment, you will sit on the Emsella chair for 30 minutes. During this time, the chair will administer electromagnetic energy to the pelvic area to stimulate pelvic floor muscle contractions. This process is not painful, but you will likely feel a tingling sensation and notice the muscle contractions. During treatment, you can feel free to relax and read a book or magazine to pass the time. Most patients have about six total treatment sessions, which are typically scheduled twice a week.

Recovery After Emsella

Emsella treatment requires no downtime. Immediately after your treatment session, you can return to work or your daily routine with no side effects or recovery period. Most patients see some immediate results from the treatment, but these will continue to improve over time. Within weeks of your final Emsella treatment session, you should notice a significant improvement in urinary incontinence.
