Diet and exercise are great for getting rid of excess fat on the body and toning areas like the legs, arms, and abdomen, but when it comes to improving the appearance of a double chin, sometimes cosmetic intervention is required. A double chin can severely hinder one’s confidence, especially when it feels like it is resistant to any improvement efforts you are making. Kybella is an injectable treatment designed to reduce the appearance of a double chin for good. At Cosmetic Plastic Surgery & Laser Center of Maryland, we offer Kybella treatments to patients seeking a sharper and more contoured jaw and neck.
What Is Kybella?
Kybella (previously known as ATX-101) is a non-surgical injectable used to reduce moderate to severe excess fat on the upper neck area, otherwise known as the “double chin.” The injection contains a naturally occurring molecule that eats away at fat. When injected properly, all other cells are left behind healthy and intact. Using Kybella for treatment on areas other than the double chin is not approved or recommended.
Who Is a Candidate for Kybella?
Ideal candidates for Kybella injections are those individuals seeking to reduce the appearance of a double chin caused by moderate to severe excess fat under the chin. Kybella will not address loose skin that may also be contributing to the appearance of a double chin. For this concern, a neck lift procedure would be more suitable. Those seeking Kybella treatment should be in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations regarding the results of treatment. The best way to determine if you are a candidate for Kybella is by scheduling a consultation at Cosmetic Plastic Surgery & Laser Center of Maryland.
Kybella Treatment
To begin your Kybella treatment, the area of the chin receiving the injections will be thoroughly cleansed. Dr. Ashruf will administer multiple injections of Kybella into the fat under your chin. The number of injections needed will depend on the amount of fat you would like to have dissolved, sometimes up to 50 injections will be required. You will need multiple sessions of Kybella injections that will be given at least one month apart from each other. Dr. Ashruf will work with you and determine how many treatments you need. Each Kybella session takes around 15-20 minutes.
Kybella Results and Recovery
Immediately after your Kybella treatment, you may notice some swelling, bruising, or numbness in your chin. These side effects are completely normal as the active ingredient works to break down the fat. The amount of treatment sessions needed to achieve our desired results will vary from patient to patient. After your final treatment, you will notice the results of a more contoured and sharp profile.
