Cellulaze is the most revolutionary treatment, FDA approved to treat cellulite with just a single procedure! Cellulaze is commonly performed by Dr. Ashruf and can in many cases be combined with a SmartLipo procedure to optimize body contouring results.

What does the Cellulaze procedure involve?

After numbing the area, a small laser tube is inserted under a patient’s skin. The laser heats up to melt lumpy pockets of fat, then, cuts through the fiber bands that pull the skin and cause dimples. The laser then heats the skin to trigger new collagen growth, leading to better elasticity and thickness. This results in a new smooth appearance of dimpled skin. Regarding recovery, patients are said to be able to return to normal activities in one or two days, but may experience immediate light bruising and swelling to the treated area.

Is Cellulaze Right for You?

  • Do you have moderate cellulite?
  • Are you at a stable weight, ideally close to your goal weight?
  • Are you a non-smoker?

If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you may be a good candidate for Cellulaze.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite refers to the areas of dimpled fat that are trapped in small areas between the bands of connective tissue that join the skin and the muscle. Located right below the epidermis, these trapped fat pockets often span several areas most commonly on the thighs and buttocks. There is no known cause of cellulite, but hormones, genetics, and overall weight play a role in cellulite formation. Until Cellulaze, there were no proven treatments for cellulite.

Cellulite occurs in women because women have a higher percentage of body fat, and also because the bands connecting the skin and muscle for women are thinner than male counterparts. This makes the dimpled fat visible, even from a distance.

What is Cellulaze?

Cellulaze is an FDA approved laser procedure, which treats the causes of cellulite.

Until the use of the Cellulaze laser, there were no treatments that addressed the causes of cellulite, most skin creams only temporarily diminished the dimpled fat beneath the surface of the skin. The Cellulaze laser treats cellulite at its source. The energy from the laser destroys the dimpled fat underneath the skin. The laser improves the depth of the skin and increases the tone, quality, and texture of the skin. Next, the laser penetrates the epidermis to release the tension from the bands of connective tissue. These bands are what contribute significantly to the appearance of cellulite. Finally, the laser fiber destroys the small bulges of fat present that also contribute to the appearance of cellulite.

By addressing the very causes of Cellulite, Baltimore board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ashruf, can remove cellulite from many areas. These include the outer thighs, the back of the thighs, the buttocks, and the lower abdomen.

Is Cellulaze painful?

The use of local anesthetic to numb the treated area allows patients to feel comfortable during their procedure. Most commonly, you will feel the movement of the laser across the skin along with light pressure, but this will not feel painful. The laser fiber used for Cellulaze can penetrate the dimpled areas of cellulite. This allows cellulite to be destroyed permanently.

What is the downtime associated with Cellulaze?

Cellulaze is an outpatient treatment. This means that you will go home after the procedure. Typically, you will see bruising after the procedure. This is normal and occurs, because of the angle that the laser is used to destroy cellulite. People also experience swelling for several days after the procedure, this too is normal and is a result of the changes in fluid and the body’s natural healing process. We provide our patients with a custom-made compression garment, tailored to their measurements. This garment should be worn for at least ten days after the procedure. It aids in compression, and skin smoothing, post procedure. Results of the treatment are evident after 3-4 weeks and improve with time.

How do I choose the right doctor for Cellulaze?

We perform Cellulaze routinely, and have a well-trained and experienced staff that will take you through the procedure and recovery.

Choosing a plastic surgeon is a personal decision that encompasses an array of factors. Other than being a highly trained and experienced surgeon, you should feel comfortable with the surgeon and be able to feel confident about the procedure under his care. With specific regards to Cellulaze, Dr. Ashruf was the first board certified plastic surgeon to perform the Cellulaze procedure in the Baltimore area. Also, his Brazilian body contouring techniques allow him to treat “problem areas” with ease. This even includes areas on the front of the thighs and even the knees.
