High-profile silicone gel breast implants offer the largest amount of projection from the chest wall and are often much smaller and denser than low or moderate profile breast implants.

Many women choose high-profile silicone gel breast implants for their breast augmentations because of the dramatic fullness high-profile implants provide.

High-profile silicone gel breast implants often do not provide a wide, round breast, as they are significantly smaller in diameter than lower profile implant models. High-profile gel implants are less prone to rippling or wrinkling of the external silicone elastomer encasing due to their extreme density.

Women with high-profile gel implants should receive diagnostic mammograms or MRIs every two to three years to check that the implant has not silently ruptured and leaked into the surrounding breast tissues.

Candidates for High-Profile Gel Implants

While many women believe that high-profile gel breast implants are right for their body, this may not be the case. Candidates for high-profile silicone gel breast implants include women who:

  • Desire round, projecting, “in style” breasts
  • Do not have much upper breast volume
  • Have narrower chests
  • Have narrower breast bases
  • Have undergone a mastectomy and lack projection
  • Are very thin
  • Are typically younger

The Procedure & Recovery

Dr. Ashruf performs high-profile gel breast implants under general anesthesia to ensure that you feel no pain during the procedure. The breast augmentation procedure usually lasts somewhere between one and two hours.

Depending on your individual measurements, incisions are made around the nipple, under the breast fold, or under the arm. High-profile gel breast implants are then placed against the chest wall to provide maximum projection.

The incisions are closed using sutures following the placement of the high-profile gel implants. Patients are typically monitored for the two to three hours following their surgery under the supervision of our highly-trained nurse practitioners. Following the outpatient surgery, patients are sent home and are encouraged to relax for several days.

Heavy lifting and strenuous activities should be avoided for up to six weeks following the procedure, and patients should expect somewhere between six and eight weeks of recovery time. Some pain and swelling may persist for several weeks following the surgery, but should subside as the incisions heal and the implants adapt.
